About
GoodneighborTV is about community, conversation and improving neighborhoods. Here you’ll find tips, interviews, resources and discussion on neighborhood life and common issues we all face. Let’s connect.
My name is Ryan Lundquist. I live in the Sacramento area of California with my wife of ten years and two wonderful boys. I own a real estate appraisal business. I’d call myself the CEO, but you know that’s really code for “sole-proprietor”. I started a neighborhood association in my home town as well as a local volunteer organization called Project 680 that advocates for local homeless students. I’m all about learning what it means to be a good neighbor and finding ways in my busy life to give feet to my passion to see people connect for the sake of a better community. I believe very strongly that our neighborhoods will only be as good as our communication.
A little more about me. I play the guitar and harmonica. I have a cat named Rambo. I love the outdoors and biking on the American River trails. I’m a huge fan of the traditional porch and traditional neighborhood design. I am an avid user of social media – Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Posterous & YouTube mostly. I really enjoy coffee, but I gave it up a while back for the sake of better health. Herbal tea just doesn’t treat me the same, but it’s the next best thing for the time being.
Am I a perfect neighbor? Not even close. There is no such thing actually. Do I sit on a high horse? Not at all. I’m deeply honored to have received several prestigious awards in the past few years for my efforts in the community and even to have played a role in helping the City of Rancho Cordova earn the designation of an “All-America City”. But let me be very direct and absolutely honest. Plaques and public kudos are not what drives me to be a good neighbor or leader.
I know what it means to be busy, and many of us feel so overwhelmed in life that the idea of beginning to invest a little more relationally in the community seems very stressful – and unrealistic. Trust me though, this is not one more thing to add to your busy life, but rather a basic lifestyle of very practical choices. Many times it’s just a matter of thinking outside of our society’s tendency toward isolation. I’ve actually found that the more we get to know neighbors around us, the better it feels to drive home from work back to the neighborhood.
Anyway, enough about me. I’d like to hear about you. I can’t wait to connect, share ideas, and enjoy conversation together.
